Rita Raley praises twin interactivities.
Stephanie Strickland wants her electronic poetry to generate a somatic practice of reading appropriate to its medium. Specifically, she codes her poetry, and the field of new media writing of which it is a part, in terms of a physically engaged practice of reading that goes beyond affective response and hermeneutic activity and additionally depends upon mechanized operations, the "nontrivial" movement of reader-user, and a mode of cognitive processing that we continue to learn. It is not simply that her poetry thematically concerns itself with information culture, its own technological and material substrate, and the mechanism of its own production... Rather, her poetry and her criticism outlines a practice and paradigm of reading that tells us something about both the distinctive properties of digital textuality and the defining features of an evolving mode of interactivity. The properties of the text and of a "new" interactivity and reader engagement are not only simultaneously thought, but inextricably connected.
